Good day, and welcome to my about page, where you can find out a little bit more about me, my photography and personality.
As you know, My name is Marty Woodcock, hailing from Regina Saskatchewan, Canada. I have two awesome and dynamic daughters and a loving wife. I specialize in portrait photography, both candid and formal.
I love portrait photography because, when done “right”, it brings out a persons individual personality. I love walking around and photographing people in the middle of a conversation, hobby or their daily routine. This kind of portrait photography is called candid photography, for obvious reasons. I also love “sculpting” a photography scene, for more formal occasions. I call this “formal photography” or depending on the occasion, “sculpted photography”. Setting it all up to match your personality (or the personality of the one(s) being photographed) is one of the enjoyable things about my job. The best thing though, is meeting people and befriending those I meet.
How did I get into photography? That’s probably the most asked question for photographers. the answer varies, but the most popular answer is “I love photography” or some variation, “and I wanted to do it as a profession”. While that is true for me as well, it goes deeper than just the love of photography. If you’re curious, I invite you to keep reading. It won’t take that long.
Before I “officially” decided to become a professional photographer, I had a few jobs before that. My first one was roofing. I loved the job, but winters meant no work, so I had a job changing oil for a few years, before going back into roofing. I still enjoyed roofing, but soon I became unsatisfied with the quality of my coworkers and bosses. I moved to Saskatchewan and changed careers to masonry. (brick and stone laying). I was about to apprentice when I injured my back. I couldn’t go back into construction, so I went back to school and became a graphic and website designer. I did that for about 15 years before moving to Regina from Saskatoon. That’s when I took a good look at myself. I eventually realized, throughout my life since I was 12, was photography. I loved it, but was ignorant of the potential. I started researching photography, and one question popped up: “What drives you to shoot?” I thought about it for a long time and when I looked back on my past photos, I noticed something. Those looking at them with me were happy. They loved looking at my work. It was then, I knew why I love photography. To make people happy. The question was how? Yes, the images themselves were good, but only for the short run, until the photo album was closed. I had a need – a deep down need, to make a lasting impression on people. I eventually realized it’s not only the photographs that makes clients happy, it’s the entire process. From the first in-person meet and greet, to the final farewell, years down the road, that people love. I realize photography isn’t just about clicking the shutter button, but it’s a way of life of making people happy. That is the reason I am a photographer.
If you want someone to click the shutter and leave, and have little to do with me until you receive your prints, I am not the person for you. However, if you want an experience you will enjoy for years to come, I welcome you to phone or email me, and we can begin your experience.
